Burden Too Heavy?

“Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
Picture Frame Driving along the African forest road, Nenuco encountered an old woman carrying a large basket of firewood on her back. Desiring to help, he stopped and offered her a ride. Thankful, the woman mounted the back of the truck and off they went. Looking in the mirror, Nenuco noticed that she was standing, holding onto the side racks of the truck, with her heavily loaded basket still strapped on her back. He stopped and told her to take the basket off and set it down, as there was no need to carry that load any longer. “Oh, thank you, sir” she replied. “But I do not wish to be too much of a burden. You’ve been so kind to help me that I wanted to do my share and carry the load, so it wouldn’t be too much for you.”

We chuckle at this woman’s simplicity and misunderstanding, but don’t we do the same thing? We have a burden that’s too heavy for us, so we go to the Lord. He helps us, but we don’t entirely put down the load we are carrying. We may leave it there with Him briefly, but then, for whatever reason, pick it up again. Is it ignorance on our part or lack of faith?

The Lord desires that we give Him not only all of our burdens, but also the whole of each burden. Nothing is too difficult for Him. He cares for us, and wants to carry our burdens. He did it on the cross in relation to our sin. When we realized we were unable to help, we surrendered our sin burden to Him. He is the only one capable of delivering us from that burden. Now we need to realize that it’s the same with our daily burdens. He desires to take them, to free us from them, because He cares for us.
